LONDON-WIDE ARE GO FOR COMPETENCY!
London Wide Cleaning Services Limited has signed up to the innovative Competency Checker (CC) Online Service.
Danny McGovern, Managing Director of London Wide, said: ‘The minute we heard about the introduction of Competency Checker we wanted to be part of it. This service is going to become a fantastic tool for our clients and for pending client management.’
Competency Checker (CC) – which was successfully launched on the 9th October 2009 at the Federation of Window Cleaners Exhibition in Blackpool - is an exciting new web-based service that gives Property Managers and other Duty Holders the ability to instantly check the qualifications and competency of a window cleaner.
Clients simply visit http://www.competencychecker.com and enter the cleaner’s name. They then have access to that cleaner’s training records, including training completed, training pending, and the current level of competency obtained. They can also view important corporate documents such as Health and Safety and Insurance Policies.
‘We get really frustrated when we’re tendering like-for-like with companies that we know don’t invest in training to the degree that we do here at London Wide,’ said Danny. ‘If a company can’t or won’t commit to CC, it’s likely they are not committing to training generally - or maybe they’ve got something to hide. High Level Window Cleaning needs to be about transparency, and I’m not just talking about a well-cleaned pane of glass!’
London Wide is fully committed during 2010 to several Clean Safe Partnership courses which will focus on key personnel and management training. Danny believes that such training is vital, particularly in this industry.
‘Legislative compliance should be regarded as the minimum acceptable standard,’ he said. ‘Truly effective health and safety management requires competency across every facet of an organization and through each level of the workforce.’
There must be a greater emphasis on coaching so that directors, line managers and workers alike are able to determine what is sensible and reasonable, Danny maintains. Moreover, the general education system should inculcate a basic understanding of risk so that young people joining the workforce are far more risk-aware.
‘We want London Wide’s clients to see how much time and effort we are investing in training,’ said Danny, ’and we hope they will appreciate the progress we are making towards delivering excellence in what is, after all, a very rewarding, but high-risk business.’
